RANCHO CUCAMONGA, California — Brandon William O’Harrow, 27, of Rancho Cucamonga was killed Thursday night when the driver of a 2003 Honda reportedly made a U-turn in front of him and the two vehicles crashed, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
About 6:14 p.m., O’Harrow was driving his 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle in the southbound lanes of Archibald Avenue near Banyan Street when his motorcycle crashed with the other vehicle. O’Harrow was ejected from the bike and he suffered severe injuries. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officers who responded to the scene of the crash pronounced him dead at the scene of the motorcycle accident.
The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash.
San Bernardino County Motorcycle Accident Statistics
There were two deaths and 16 injuries due to motorcycle crashes in Rancho Cucamonga in 2010, according to statistics compiled by the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic System Report. In San Bernardino County, there were 26 motorcyclists killed and 436 riders injured in motorcycle accidents reported in 2010, the report said.
There were 389 fatalities and 10,134 injuries to motorcyclists in California in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic System Report.
In the United States, motorcyclist injuries made a significant drop, down roughly 9% to 82,000 injuries reported in 2010 compared to 90,000 injuries the year before. Fatal accidents were slightly up, 4,502 deaths were reported in 2010 compared to 4,469 in 2009.
