Driver fell asleep before fatal collision

LOST HILLS, CALIFORNIA (August 28, 2015) – ABC 23 is reporting that 3 members of the Wonderful Company were killed in a tragic head-on crash between Highway 43 and the I-5 corridor. (map)

Authorities have been able to identify one of the men killed in the crash as Armando Contreras. One of the passengers involved in the crash has been identified as Veronica Dias De Madrigal. The CHP is reporting that one of the drivers involved in the collision fell asleep and swerved into the other lane of traffic.

The Wonderful Company shut down production for a day in order to commemorate the victims. Authorities will continue to investigate the accident in order to determine liability.

Beloved Salinas resident dies in tragic accident

SALINAS, CALIFORNIA (August 28, 2015) – A tragic apartment fire killed a 20-year-man near  270 Harvest Street, according to KSBW. (map)

Authorities have been able to identify the man that was killed as 20-year-old Brandon Arenas. He was affectionately known by his siblings and friends as “Pepe.”

Police are saying that Arenas became trapped in the apartment. His two brothers were able to escape the fire by jumping out of the window on the second story. One of them suffered a broken leg.

Deputy Fire Chef Brett Loomis says that this tragedy may have been preventable. The two young men who survived this fire were awakened by the heat and the sounds of their brother trying to escape.

Fire department officials could not confirm whether or not the smoke detectors were working at the time of the fire. Authorities will continue to investigate.

2 Woman left for Dead in Fiery Car after Crash off Embankment

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (August 27, 2015) – After a long night of partying with friends a man abandons his female occupants in their crashed vehicle that became engulfed in flames, states Channel 7 San Diego NEWS. (map)

Police officials stated that the night began with the male driver partying for several hour prior to the incident, which included drinking, marijuana, and cocaine use. Antony Schoenle, accompanied by Lizzy Garcia and Lupe Acosta drove until they reached Friars Road when Anthony veered off after hitting a curb.

The vehicle then went into the air and down the embankment where it hit the rocks below and quickly caught on fire.

Schoenle wasted no time in removing his seat-belt and exiting the car as he climbed over the front passenger and got out before he could be further affected by the flames.

The 2 woman who were left behind, along with a puppy that was also in the car, who sadly could not escape in time and were consumed by the flames.

Anthony was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and soon after arraigned following the incident while still in his hospital bed.

Statements given to police by Anthony showed his negligence and blatant disregard for the two woman who were with him.

At the time as he called one of them “dead weight” when questioned thereafter the incident.

Lizzy Garcia and Lupe Acosta were close friends and bands mates at Oceanside High where they attended school together. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Head on Truck Collision

RANCHO SANTA FE, CALIFORNIA (August 27,2015) – 3 men involved in a head on collision were seriously injured and transported to the hospital, states Channel 7 San Diego NEWS (map)

Police and paramedic officials arrived at the scene where one man was entrapped within the vehicle and had to be extricated in order to be airlifted and treated for his injuries.

Another was transported via ambulance to the same Scripps La Jolla Hospital. The third man was cared for and treated for his injuries at the scene and was released thereafter.

Firefighters Discover 1 Dead after Putting out the Flames in an Apartment Complex

TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA (August 27, 2015) – It took 30 firefighters to put out the flames at Kona Kai apartments early Sunday morning which sadly took the life of one occupant who was unable to get out, states Channel 4 Southern California NEWS. (map)

Firefighter stated that the fire began in one unit and thereafter spread into 5 others as it grew, however, the people inside the others were able to evacuate in time.

One witness was amazed at how fast they were able to control and stop the fire from spreading any further. Residents were seen rescuing their cars from the car ports beneath, after leaving the building in case the fire was to worsen.

Several people were displaced, some with pets, because of this unfortunately tragic incident.

Firefighting officials continued to remain at the scene long afterwards in order to gather information that might lead to the initial cause of the fire. Surrounding cross street of Sepulveda and Ocean Avenue remained closed during the investigation.
